Cargo ship catches fire in Recto Bank; 25 crew rescued
A car-carrier vessel bound for Batangas from Singapore caught fire near Recto (Reed) Bank over the weekend and has been burning since, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Monday.
Capt. Armand Balilo, PCG spokesman, said the fire at M/V Diamond Highway, operated by K-line, started at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday.
As of 1:39 p.m. on Monday, Balilo said the fire was still raging as the ship’s 25 crew members had been rescued by Bulk Carrier Canupos Leader en route to Thailand.

Balilo said the BRP Cabra, one of the Parola-class patrol vessels of the PCG, was on its way to Recto Bank put out the fire.
